In this project Javier Rodríguez Lozano explores the pictorial potentialities of the doormats from the building he has been living in for the last 8 years. Doormats, daily ill-fated objects normally ignored, have strong symbolic and form traits that interest me: their minimalistic designs, tied to the symbolic; the body-language closed in their use; as the fact that they are one of the few identity objects in the landings of the buildings.
The result of the project are oil paintings where the doormats’ designs are synthesize, apart from being enlarged or shrunk. Sometimes the wood stretcher is exchanged for foam, a flexible material, adding malleability to the painting.
